High Resolution Images from December 2011

High Resolution Images from December 2011

The images in the main blog have been reduced in size to 600 pixels or less across to facilitate quick loading. It goes against all my sensibilities to reduce the resolution, so each month I shall select a few shots that warrant being seen in in hi-res.
These posts may take slightly longer to load, so please be patient.

These Black-tailed Godwits were flying out to see if the tide had receded enough to allow them to start feeding in the Thames Estuary near Oare Marshes.

Any African pictures are always going to make it onto my favourites list. Just inside the gate at the Kruger National Park in South Africa was an Impala receiving a grooming from a Red-billed Oxpecker.

Lake Panic provided a delightful couple of hours during the visit to the Kruger NP where a family of Goliath Herons kept us all entertained.

November was a funny month with exams, bad weather and very few trips. There were only two photos worth looking at again.

The Northern Mockingbird was the best shot from a visit to Washington and Virginia, taken at the end of a cold, frustrating trip disrupted by the November storm.

Against all the odds, my favourite picture from a day out with Corey and Doug in New York, is scenery. Who would have thought it?

This splendid male Wood Duck was reflected in a small open patch of water in Beaver Lake, Stanley Park, Vancouver.

This Yellow-billed Pintail was seen at the end of the day in the Botanical Gardens in Sao Paulo.

The White-winged Doves in Phoenix Desert Botanical Gardens were abundant and hungry. They really enjoyed eating the pulpy red flowers on top of the cacti.

After finding all the roads into the mountains were closed, I despaired of finding anything to take pictures of. This immature Red-tailed Hawk was seen on a wire on the road back down from Ramsey Canyon.

I was supposed to be looking for Black Skimmers when this Great Egret flew across my line of sight at Bolsa Chica.

I got it into my head that this Great Crested Grebe had the look of Keira Knightly. Anyone? It was fishing in the current  of the River Len as it flows into the lake at Mote Park.

This Saffron Finch was seen in beautiful early morning light outside Ribera Norte to the north of Buenos Aires.

A frazzled parent bird was trying to keep at least three, maybe even 4 fledglings fed at Kadoorie Farm in Hong Kong.

The Atlantic Puffins were certainly the stars of the show when we went to Skomer.

Close to home, a pair of Green Woodpeckers were looking for somewhere to nest.
