It is slated to become a new species Indian Reed Warbler by virtue of song and wing formula. I'm sure you noticed that the wing point on your birds was at 3/4 rather than at 3 as in the nominate subspecies from the Nile. As a reed bed bird that finds its mate or defends its territory by singing to it i think it makes sense to split a bird that sings differently.

That would mean stentoreus from the Nile would become Clamorous RW.
brunnescens and possibly meridionalis from Sri Lanka becomne Indian RW
levantinus from Israel might also split
All the far eastern races from islands heading out to New Guinea would form a fourth species

Australian reed warbler has already been split and of course Oriental reed was split years ago.

Armchair ticking!! What a great sport.Redgannethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17453869909278728690noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7465222688340467790.post-66805451003669228372013-12-11T20:55:24.467+00:002013-12-11T20:55:24.467+00:00It seems like a great spot for waders at the momen...It seems like a great spot for waders at the moment, with some real id. challenges.Sonjahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08940828763843098232noreply@blogger.com
